When this very small but historic Scotch Whisky region was in danger of losing its status, one of the oldest and still independent family owned distillers stepped in to save it along with some of the famous labels of the past. Now Springbank, along with their neighbor Glen Scotia, whose malts are better than they have been in generations, come together in this rare blend of single malts from the two producers. Bottled at a higher proof than most blends Gauldrons incorporates the best of this coastal region that whose flavors run the spectrum of Scotch Whisky.
As a synonym for Scottish, some people object to the term “Scotch” – but as far as their whisky goes, the Scottish people are required by law to classify the spirit as “Scotch whisky.”
History:Distillation was brought to Scotland from Ireland by missionary monks in the 6th century. In 1644, the first taxes were imposed on Scottish distillers by England, with the result that most of the nation’s whisky was soon distilled illicitly.
