"Pitu" is as much a staple of the Brazilian pantry as rice and beans. For this nostalgic Carioca, it brings back memories of beach side caipirinhas, the dangerously tasty "Batidas" (blended drinks) at street fairs with a variety of tropical fruits (passionfruit, mango, guava etc).
