Grüner Veltliner "Hefeabzug", Nikolaihof - 2022

Item # 11247 750mL

Hefeabzug means aged on the lees. This is Grüner Veltliner as Muscadet - with crisp, salty minerality on the palate and so much more body and spice. The Nikolaihof winery is one of the oldest wine estates in Austria, whose history goes back almost 2000 years to the Roman empire.

Nikolaihof makes wines beautiful. I sent a bottle of this in a mixed case to my father and stepmother, and when I went to visit them, it was still in their fridge. What a pleasant surprise for me! They had assumed that it was a sweet wine, I guess because of the long bottle, and they thought it was a Gewurztraminer. It was the last leg of a vacation that was not very vacation-like, and when I got to their house after a 6 hour train ride, finding this bottle all chilled and ready to drink was such a delight. My stepmom tasted it with us and she really liked it too. "It's dry," she said. This is the kind of wine, like a nice cru Beaujolais, that is a cut above your everyday drinking wine. Nikolaihof has been organic since always. While this is just their entry level wine, it's really great, and your step-mom will love it too.

Grüner Veltliner

Blauer Zweigelt), which yields full-bodied wines, deep in color and featuring bold flavors of...
