Staff Pick Notes

I first tasted Indica when I visited with Lioco at their tasting room in Healdsburg. Since 2005 Lioco has been partnering with and celebrating grape growers in what they describe as "the Golden State’s last frontiers", throughout the far reaches of Sonoma County. With organic grapes sourced from three historic dry farmed Mendocino County vineyards 'Indica' is composed of Carignan and Valdiguié, a grape variety native to Southern France but historically referenced as "Napa Gamay". You can taste the winemakers touch in this glass. Crunchy fresh red fruits like currants and pomegranate. Soft but earthy pepper notes. Herbals like thyme and bay. I certainly enjoyed this wine with a chill, bringing out delicate floral notes of lavender. Lioco says: "this reminds of us Cote de Brouilly but it is unabashedly Californian."

Now that it is subject to...
