Rosato Frizzante "Pettirosso," Punta Crena - 2022

Item # 22940 750mL

A sparkling rosé wine made from the local grapes Rossese and Sangiovese. An energetic wine with luscious berry flavors. Not bone dry and delicious as an aperitif. Made with a single, vat fermentation and the type of frizzante that works well with an antipasto plate of cured meats and aged cheese.

Staff Pick Notes

Punta Crena Pettirosso from Liguria + a big plate of meats and cheeses = my February plans. Paolo Ruffino, whose family has run the vineyard for generations, says of their farming practices, "We’re not organic... We just do everything the same way our ancestors have for hundreds of years." Bonus info: It's delicious, but I wouldn't call it "easy-drinking," which is often a euphemism for light bodied and forgettable. This is a savory, structured rose with texture and personality. Native grapes rossece and crovino are co-vinified in a single fermentation, and the wine spends 4 months on the lees.

Sangiovese has shown itself in recent years to be an excellent complement to Cabernet Sauvignon in red Italian blends; this grape duo forms the basis of many of the...
