Staff Pick Notes

Well, It's that time of year again—the third Thursday of November, when our Beaujolais Nouveau begin to trickle in. There is one that I keep heading back to year in and year out. Domaine du Clos du Fief is run by the father-son team of Michel and Sylvain Tête. After learning many winemaking techniques in Beaune, Michel took over using low yields and meticulously farming their vineyards. These grapes are coming from 50-year-old vines from Les Côtes de la Roche, just west of Juliénas in the town of Jullié. 350 meters of elevation keep this wine fresh with high-toned red fruit notes. Strawberries and raspberries come leaping out the glass, while underlying spice and earth notes will pair with all your Thanksgiving dishes...even the cranberry sauce from the can!

Beaujolais Nouveau is perhaps the most gulpable wine made anywhere, and it should be drunk very soon after its release, which occurs each year on the...
