Tasting Notes

The maritime influence of the region allows the fruit to reach peak levels of ripeness giving this white blend a rich fruitness that’s packed with aromas and flavors of white peaches, pears and white flowers. Balanced with bright acidity the palate ends long and lush.

Staff Pick Notes

This wine was made for water. Allow me to elaborate. I took this classic Rhône blend to the beach last weekend and it was an ideal pairing to the warm sun, briny breeze and a great afternoon spent with friends. I could just as easily picture sharing this bottle in good company on a cool autumn evening by a mountain lake. This wine was also made near the water, in Costières de Nîmes, just north of the Mediterranean coast in between Montpellier and Marseilles. The weather here is quite sunny (2,700 hours annually) and the Mistral winds from the north keep grapes cool and dry during the growing season. The region is better known for red varieties, but this white wine is a real showstopper at a great price, too! And I bet you won’t even be mad if a little sand gets in your glass.

Grenache is familiar to most wine drinkers as an ingredient in the blends of the Rhône and Languedoc-Roussillon, where it can add charm to varieties that are a little rougher around the edges. The distinguished Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas appellations are both...

Rhône

Prestige in the north, value in the south: that’s the quick version of the Rhône story. Southern village appellations produce a dizzying stylistic range of delicious wines, while the prices for northern “trophy” bottles can be dizzyingly high. If you like smoky, leathery, earthy, macho red wines, however, the wines of the northern Rhône are well worth it. Prestigious northern Rhône appellations...

Viognier

Some of the most intriguing wines associated with the white Viognier grape contain hardly any Viognier at all: in the Côte Rôtie appellation, wine must be made principally from the red Syrah grape, but up to 20 percent (often far less) can be of white Viognier. The practice of adding Viognier to Syrah began as a way of taming the very ripe, tannic reds of the hot Côte Rôtie ("roasted slope"), but...
