Mouvedre is gnarly and intense. It’s a grape often doled out in small portions to add color, structure, and dark fruit to a blended wine. So to see it in a bottle all on its own is unusual. The producers at Terre Rouge have tamed this feral grape into something slick and graceful. Scents of sandalwood, crushed blackberries, and gentle vanilla. The palate is pure silk (due to the extra years in bottle) yet maintains the brambly black fruit expected from Mouvèdre. Like Terre Rouge somehow stuffed a gorilla into a tuxedo. Bravo!
