One of the best mezcals we have tasted all year. Alberto Montes has coaxed some magic into this bottle There are notes of wild mushrooms, mesquite smoke, honeysuckle, fresh citrus, chile peppers, minerals and so much more. But mere tasting notes couldn't come close to how special this is.
Ulises Torrentera is a legend in Oaxaca. For the last few decades he's been touring palenques, tasting, writing, and promoting artisanal producers. Few people know more about mezcal than this man. With Farolito, he's taken all of that knowledge and experience and created a line of some of the finest mezcals to grace our shelves. Farolito Horno is a rare bottling (only 808 bottles) from Alberto Montes in Nochixtlan. He uses the agave Americana, which is grown in an arid desert, ferments in wooden tubs and distills in clay pot stills. It leads with aromas of lime, black pepper, and mezquite that are echoed on the palate, along with a long stony finish that tastes like the desert. It's one of the most remarkable mezcals I've tasted.
