Jenny Lind Heritage Melon Aperitif Wine by Matchbook Distilling

A new installment in legendary Ark of Taste series created by the venerable Slow Foods organization and a groundbreaking aperitif from the cutting edge and singular Matchbook Distilling. Created in 1986 by Carlo Petrini, Ark of Taste was created to identify culturally and historically significant things that are linked to a specific region and at risk of disappearing. With over tow years in the making, Danny Childs of Slow Drinks and Leslie Merinoff of Matchbook worked with Ploughshare farms in southern New Jersey to bring back the heirloom Jenny Lind melon, prized for its superior flavors and quality and once the most popular in the entire United States. This first ever batch available for the broader public to try was made with a base of biodynamic wine from Long Island and the whole fruit used in a combination of distilling and infusion. The aromas seductuvely draw you in with potent notes that evoke the ripest and juiciest melons at the peak of the summer season. Not too sweet on the palate with the structure of the wine adding extra depth this is the perfect thirst quenching aperitif easy well chilled, with a cube of ice, in a spritz, mixed with gin... however you like.
