Carjcanti, Gulfi - 2020

Item # 12109 750mL

Carricante, a white variety native to Mount Etna, also thrives in the Monte Iblei area of southeastern Sicily. Though truly a wine of finesse, this has a strong and robust structure, with notes of grapefruit, almonds, and chalky minerality on the palate. Decant and enjoy this today or hold it for up to a decade.

Staff Pick Notes

Owned and founded by Vito Catania, Gulfi is both the name of the region in Southeastern Sicily and this particular vineyard. It's one of the premier wineries in Sicily and consistently produces some of my favorite Southern Italian wines. While Gulfi has made it's name producing some of the best Nero d'Avola in the world, their whites should not be skipped over. This bottling is a blend of Caricante and Albanello, both indigenous varietals. It's harvested from a super small, 1.5 hectare vineyard. Caricante is cultivated around Etna, while Albanello is an ancient grape that is almost extinct. It's fruity but dry with zippy acidity and a gentle white flower aroma. It would make an excellent pairing for a simple fish dish, anything with tartar sauce, or mollusks.
