Mercurey 1er Cru "Clos des Barraults", Michel Juillot - 2019

Item # 21962 750mL

This is a very traditional style of Burgundy that is drinking well right now. The nose is full of delicate rose and violets and continues with bright red fruit on the palate. Give this some air upon opening and enjoy the aromas and flavors as it evolves in the glass.

Staff Pick Notes

It’s always exciting when you are tasting through Burgundies and come across a true gem. This wine surely is proof of that! Mercurey, an appellation in the Côte Chalonnaise (in the southern part of the Côte d’Or), can often be overlooked as a region in part due to its lack of Grand Cru Vineyards (it has none). However, some of these Premier Crus can be incredible wines delivering amazing value! The Clos des Barraults vineyard demonstrates this magic. A predominately southern exposure with a combination of clay and limestone soils mixed with distinctive marble pebbles, this vineyard develops deeply concentrated grapes delivering pure fruit flavors while retaining that mouthwatering limestone zip and freshness. It’s this interplay between depth and elegance that makes this wine so beautiful.

Terroir, the concept that wines from a specific region have unique and identifiable traits, is intricately...

Burgundy

The range of wine styles offered in Burgundy rivals that of any other region. Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness of a California wine, yet retain a very Burgundian, mineral-driven core and great acidity....
