Staff Pick Notes

Agiorgitiko

Looking for an exotic alternative to Beaujolais Village? Look no further. This agiorgitiko (pronounced ayioryitiko) from the Peloponnese is a fruit-driven easy-drinking treat. It's bursting with bright red cherries, raspberries, and grapes, is soft and light on the palate with bright youthful acidity. It is a wine to be drunk young with light fare. Enjoy slightly chilled, and don't be afraid of learning to pronounce a new grape variety that's really not new at all.

Glossary

Agiorgitiko

Pronounced "ah yor YEE ti ko", this is one of the most prolific red varieties of Greece. This hard-to-pronounce grape is often called “St. George” for international marketing purposes, and makes some beautiful, easy-drinking, light to medium-bodied wines. If you’re a fan of fruit-driven reds like Pinot Noir or Gamay, this is a good grape to try out.
