Staff Pick Notes

When it comes to certain DOC zones, aging requirements are strict. If a producer wants to release their wine a little earlier, they can do so and label it differently. This is how Langhe Nebbiolo came about. This one has some aging in barrique (about 10 months) and then Slovenian oak for about 16 months. It also undergoes malolactic fermentation, which softens the astringency young Nebbiolo can have. The casks are selected from basically declassified Barolo and produce a really fantastic expression of a young Nebbiolo. Deeply fruity, a bit plusher in body than some young ones, with velvety tannins and a lingering finish, this wine will change the way you feel about young Nebbiolo. "Perbacco" translates to "For Bacchus" as this is Vietti's offering to the Wine God. Have it be their offering to you at your next dinner party!

Several other Piedmontese grapes make striking and delicious wines: Pelaverga produces light-colored reds with distinctive notes of strawberry, cherry, and pink peppercorn. The red Freisa is vinified in a variety of styles:...
