Coenobium, Bianco - 2022

Item # 18226 750mL

Nuns probably aren't the first people who come to mind when you think of winemaking, but this white was indeed made by a group of nuns in Italy's Lazio region. Dry, slightly acetic with brilliant acidity; a great wine for the table.

Staff Pick Notes

Giampiero Bea was introduced to the sisters of Monastero Suore Cistercens in Lazio through a mutual friend. Together they produce this warm, fuzzy wine that has light skin contact and so much potential it’s hard to wrap your mind around it. A busty body, packed with the smell of pulling open the ceramic knob of your mothers baking spice drawer. Nutmeg dusted over poached pairs and long sprigs of eucalyptus. Toting the kind of decadence that will have you licking your fingers. Pale petals from jacaranda trees falling like snow on the windshields of cars parked along Irvine Blvd. Walking alongside the snaking curb, bare feet on wet pavement. Bare legs. The feeling of breathing in supple summer morning air deep into your lungs.

Glossary

Verdicchio

This white Italian grape variety generally produces wines with a good amount of acidity, making it great for cutting through buttery, saucy dishes.
