Domaine de la Pepiere is unquestionably one of the top producers in Muscadet, making seriously substantial and substantially serious wines from Melon de Bourgogne. It’s refreshing (in more ways than one) to encounter this playful “Vin de Pays” made from Cab Franc. When your vineyard is blessed with southwest facing slopes on granite soils, why wouldn’t you grow and vinify Cabernet Franc? The Pepié Cabernet is soft and fresh wine that you may serve with a chill and then gulp down. It smells of fresh berries and dried herbs. There are rustic notes of smoke and earth along with a tickle of tannins. It’s a great aperitif wine to give a party a crushing start.
