Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, Stella di Campalto - 2015

Item # 24754 750mL

From five vineyards, all of which sit between 900 and 1000 ft above sea level, this is a Brunello that avoids masculine stereotypes and goes for a structured, feminine style. Yet, clearly this is Sangiovese with all the garnet cherry and crumpled tobacco leaf that one desires. Highly age-worthy, but decant for immediate pleasure.

Staff Pick Notes

If you hold this remarkable wine for a few more years you will be rewarded with rich complexity and elegant depth of flavor. But if, like me, you need immediate delicious gratification, fear not. Treat it to a little air and this wine will drink beautifully right now. Fragrant violets, wood, & leather on the nose. Dark berries and black cherries with sturdy but inoffensive tannins which are balanced out with a dash of bright acidity on the palate. More graceful than many other, more rustic Brunellos, Stella di Campalto will delight without food but will surely shine with red meat, game, and roasted poultry.

Sangiovese has shown itself in recent years to be an excellent complement to Cabernet Sauvignon in red Italian blends; this grape duo forms the basis of many of the...

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano shows the softer side of the grape, containing up to 20% of other varieties. Young Chianti often smells of fresh fruit and herbs, while Chianti Classico Riserva can be dark and brooding. The term “Super Tuscans”...
