Zweigelt, Blanc de Noir, Dürnberg - 2023

Item # 31136 750mL

Although this is a Blanc de Noir—a white wine made from a red grape—it actually retains a very pale pink hue. It’s made from the free-run juice of Zweigelt grapes that have been de-stemmed. The grapes are grown in multiple vineyard sites, which have a base of both clay and limestone. A dry rosé that makes an excellent foil for veggie burgers or salads.

Staff Pick Notes

I will always have a soft spot in my heart for rosé from Austria, and make no mistake about it, this Blanc De Noir looks and drinks like a rosé. The light color might almost fool you to think this was some watery and acidic Provence rosé. However, this one's made from free run Zweigelt juice and has a beautiful balance of fruit and acid with a wonderful undertone of earthiness to make a really fun, easy-drinking wine.

Zweigelt, modestly named by Fritz Zweigelt of the Federal Institute for Viticulture and Pomology at Klosterneuburg, Austria in 1922, is a crossing of Blaufränkisch and St.-Laurent. Offering some of the best attributes of both its parents, Zweigelt is very resistant to frost (an important trait to have when growing in chilly Austria) and ripens relatively early. It combines the...
