Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine "Monnières-Saint Fiacre," Ch. la Gravelle - 2015

Item # 31425 750mL

Monnières-Saint Fiacre is one of four crus in the Muscadet appellation and has a stricter regulation. This is a fuller and rounder style of Muscadet due to extended aging on its lees. This powerful and intense wine is filled with apple, flint, and brioche and is great to pair with roasted chicken or with grilled salmon.

Staff Pick Notes

It used to be that there was only Muscadet and Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie and you always wanted the de Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie. The longer lees aging, Sur Lie, gives a very crisp wine and wonderful texture that paired perfectly with all kinds of seafood. Over the last couple of years, all these different Crus have popped up and Monnières-Saint Fiacre is one of them and I am sure contributes to this wine. For me what stands out is the 14 months of lees aging and the bottle age. So you get all the crispness and vitality of classic Muscadet with a texture and evolution of flavor and really makes for a beautiful bottle of wine.

Glossary

Melon de Bourgogne

Muscadet

The coolest (temperature-wise) of the Loire Valley appellations, this region is most famous for its bracingly dry, seafood-friendly whites. Made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape (virtually unheard of in the rest of the world), these refreshing wines are idyllic partners for oysters or mussels.

Loire

There’s a lot to remember when it comes to the Loire. Novices, take note: Cabernet Franc is a great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon, Muscadet is unparalleled as a companion to shellfish, and Cour Cheverny is the best white wine appellation you’ve never heard of. As diverse as Loire wines are, one day soon you'll know your Melon de Bourgogne from your Romorantin.
