Staff Pick Notes

The Hewitson vinery is situated on the Adelaide Hills. It's a touristy spot and a very popular site for wine making. Over ninety wine labels are based here. This Australian wine region is ideal for growing Sauvignon Blanc. Differently from the close by warm wine regions, like Barossa, these hills benefit from a cooler climate, allowing grapes to mature at a slow pace, resulting in concentrated wines. This wine is aromatic with citrus and melon notes in the nose. On the palate you can enjoy fresh grass, tropical fruit notes, grapefruit and fig. Refreshing and full of flavors!

Glossary

Sauvignon Blanc

Few varietals have spawned as bizarre a list of descriptors as Sauvignon Blanc. Believe it or not, “cat pee” is in fact a complimentary tasting note, associated with some of the best bottlings. (It’s a somewhat odd way of pointing out herbaceousness in the wine.) Australia

Australian Shiraz (made from the grape called “Syrah” in other parts of the world) shows the essence of the outback: it’s big, bold, and a little rough around the edges. The vast country leaves lots of room for variation, however, with its many terroirs each yielding distinctively styled wines. The climate of South Australia’s McLaren Vale district is heavily influenced by the ocean; wines here typically show savory notes of olive and spice on the nose and deep berry flavors on the palate....

South Australia

South Australia is home to nearly half the country's wine production as well as the center of premium Shiraz production. It contains the Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, Eden Valley, Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, Padthaway, and Coonawarra regions.

Adelaide Hills

One of Australia's premier cool climate wine regions, the Adelaide Hills region is made up of a collection of sub-regions that roughly sit between the Barossa Valley in the north and McLaren Vale in the south. The high altitude and steep topography of the region exert cooling and humidifying effects, which, along with the highest rainfall in South Australia, contribute to a climate very conducive to leaner, more mineral-driven styles of wine.
