Staff Pick Notes

Everyone has heard of Chardonnay and its wines are consumed by many the world over. However, a lot of wine drinkers follow the principle of ABC- Anything But Chardonnay. Clearly its reputation has suffered because of over (or artificially) oaked and blowsy versions that manifest at every price point. But the fact is Chadonnay is an amazing grape because it's a chameleon of sorts. The wines can actually be lithe, mineral, racy and irresistible. And you're most likely to find this enticing version from the Chablis region of Burgundy. Clotilde Davenne is making such authentic Chardonnays and they're not to be missed if you can even find them. Her 2017 Chablis is showing beautifully with deep flavors, excellent tension and persistent finish. Super versatile at the table and a good value compared to the rest of the bunch.

It is a flexible, eager-to-please grape, responding well to just about anything a winemaker...
