Tasting Notes

At the epicenter of the mezcal world in the village of Santiago Matatlan, Oaxaca, the Cortes family have been producing traditional mezcales for over 5 generations across 180 years. This gorgeous 100% Espadin bottling is easily one of the best buys in the category. Well rounded and accessible notes include fragrant wood smoke, fresh herbs, sweet limes, tropical fruits and white pepper.

Staff Pick Notes

This is my pick for the best tasting Mezcal on the the shelf that I feel at ease mixing cocktails with. When I'm here at the store I always recommend it. Smaller production Mezcals that cost 3, 4, 5, times the price I will sip/savor neatly. this is not to say that it's not worth sipping neat... quite the opposite really. The production is still tiny though, allowing for a focus on high quality Espadin and expert distillation. It's fragrant and inviting on the nose. On the palate its vibrant, flavorful and balanced.
