Menetou-Salon is a small region in the central part of the Loire Valley due west of Sancerre. It is a great source of Sauvignon Blanc in white iterations and, in this vintage, has really blown us away with the fruit profile and mineral structure. Winemaker David Girard started the domaine when he was 20 years old in 2003 and today has a mere 2 ha of vines in this region.

Menetou-Salon has steadily become my favorite little town in the Loire Valley. In a world where a simple and satisfying Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Noir can cost as much as your entree, this enclave immediately southwest of Sancerre is the answer. Domaine de Champarlan was founded in the early 2000s by brothers David and Luc Girard. With just 2 hectares under vine, they do everything possible to maximize quality over quantity. True to Loire Valley Sauvignon. This is a directly crisp and dry glass. The beauty comes in the delicate flicks of white spring blossom and very subtle fruit notes of white peach and lemon curd. A fragrant and friendly glass that I heartily recommend for your next dinner party.
