According to the distillery, Basel cherry originated in the Black Sea region and was brought to Italy and eventually the rest of Europe by the Romans. For this eau de vie, the family uses two types of sweet, heart shaped varieties that grow in Switzerland known as, "Dolleseppler," and, "Basler Langstieler." After over a decade resting in glass, the range of complexity from this lot of eau de vie extends well beyond the primary fruit flavors themselves. Notes include rich preserved fruits, cloves, pink peppercorns, currants and damp earth.
