Tasting Notes

Believing in his limestone terroir, maverick Jean-Paul Brun planted Pinot Noir smack dab in the middle of the Beaujolais. The result is this fabulous wine that shows up many of its Côte d'Or cohorts.

Staff Pick Notes

Looking to get your feet wet in the 2012 vintage of red Burgundy? Why not head over to Beaujolais? Three cheers for Jean-Paul Brun, the Gamay demigod, for tapping this unique terroir (primarily limestone, as opposed to the granite underlying most Beaujolais crus), and for giving us an unusual and tantalizing substitute for what is, unfortunately, a miniscule forthcoming vintage for Pinot Noir in Burgundy. This is a breathtakingly pure, layered, savory, sous-bois-ish little wine that utterly delights. Run--don't walk--to the nearest roast chicken with thyme.

Terroir,...

Fans of rich, unctuous, and well-oaked Chardonnay will enjoy Chassagne-Montrachet, whose age-worthy offerings offer all the fatness...
