From the historic Gustave Eiffel-designed Combier Distillery in the picturesque town of Saumur of France's Loire River Valley comes the very exciting first offering from a new outfit dubbed Sweetdram. Escubac is a reimagining of the quintessential French liqueur that was, for generations, as ubiquitous as the baguette. It's made with a base of neutral sugar beet alcohol and the team slowly brings the distillate down to an ideal macerating proof as a canvas for the exotic recipe of botanicals that includes caraway, bitter orange, cloves, nutmeg, licorice, green anise, cinnamon, coriander, cardamom, lemon peel, and more. After distillation on the rare egrot pot stills, the spirit is left to rest for a few days as it naturally picks up its chartreuse-like color from an infusion of saffron. The strong notes of baking spices, brine, and medicinal plants and herbs make this an ideal alternative to gin for any tonic-based drink, as well as a choice partner for mixing with sparkling wines, citrus juices, and much else. This is a drink of the present and future by way of the past.
