An entincing blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Mourvèdre. Husband and wife winemakers used Mourvèdre cuttings from Dom Tempier. This bold wine has intense olive notes and has been farmed organically for generations. Bottled unfiltered.
Don't be fooled by this unassuming label, the wine inside has a surprising pedigreed lineage. Winemaker Xavier Peyraud is the grandson of Domaine Tempier's Lucien Peyraud, and their Mourvèdre comes from cuttings from this famed Bandol estate.
Xavier and his wife Géraldine's vineyards are near Montpellier and have been in his wife's family since 1525. Yet it remains a small, family-run operation. They farm organically, hand harvest and use a traditional basket press (in their garage!).
That hands-on, artisanal approach, along with those remarkable Mourvèdre grapes (40% of the blend) are what make this wine a standout. Red fruit on the nose gives way to dark cherry, black pepper and olive notes on the palate, all lifted by a bright acidity.The tannins are firm, but possess remarkable finesse. Fantastic wine.
