Staff Pick Notes

This historic Alsatian estate is currently on its fifth generation of family winemakers, and was founded when Alsace was part of a newly unified Germany. The family ran a grocery store, and tended vines in the town of Ribeauvillé, which is still its base of operations today. They own vines in three seperate Grand Crus here, their largest holdings being in Osterberg. This offering truly showcases their German winemaking roots, and is a prime example of the incredibly syncretic culture of Alsace. The marl and sandstone soils offer a beautifully stony aroma, with stone fruits, white flowers, and the highly desired petrol note of finely aging Riesling. This is a serious wine, and would be a great candidate for the cellar, but also offers much pleasure today. Grab your finest green-stemmed wine glass, and enjoy with the finest choucroute!

They are careful to retain the delightful honeyed, flinty flavors that the best sweet Rieslings have always displayed. Alsace, of...
