Bloomer Creek, Cabernet Franc, "Vin d`été" - 2019

Item # 33850 750mL

Bloomer Creek produce their "Vin d`été" version of Cabernet Franc only in cooler years. A large portion of whole cluster fermentation is used, resulting in a more fresh and juicy style of wine. Quaffable, yet still refined and made with intent, their wines are as unique as the individuals behind their extremely small production.

Staff Pick Notes

For four decades, Kim Engle and Deb Bermingham have been innovators of natural winemaking in a region where everyone else was practicing conventional methods. Bloomer Creek will alternate their Cabernet Franc wines, depending on the ripening season. Warmer, sunnier years will see their traditional, barrel aged “Cabernet Franc”. Vin d’Été (Summer Wine) is made in cooler years where their Cabernet Franc vines struggle to achieve ripeness. Carbonic maceration is used, which gives the wine a gentle and lively tasting experience. Acidity abounds and further adds to the freshness. Flavors of raspberries and blueberries are mixed with a wet stone, mineral feel. It’s a red that’s crisp enough for cool summer dishes (did someone say watermelon salad?). Best served with a slight chill.

Cabernet Franc has remained close to its roots in France, enjoying small pockets of popularity primarily in the Loire Valley (specifically in Chinon), where it is often bottled as a varietal wine, and in Bordeaux where it is still used in moderate percentages in the typical blends. In fact,...
