Red slate Riesling will have a red capsule covering the cork, for example. The distinction between his bottlings is remarkable. This bottle has endless character and is very richly textured. It comes from his red slate vineyard, Marienburg Rothenpfad - one of his top vineyards and therefore it gets the distinction of Grosses Gewächs (GG for short). This GG designation is reserved for top wines.

Clemens Busch's wines are what "vin de terroir" should be. Indeed, we cannot mention his wine without talking about the soil and how the colorful slate of the Mosel are present in each of his wine. The location of his vineyard is a unique combination of Volcanic soil red, grey and blue slate in very steep, south-facing terrace. Farming Biodynamically, Rita and Clemens Busch are very humble and true to what they do, not using chemicals is the key to translating the terroir in the bottle. Minerals from red slate translate as a rich structured layer of stony acidity. Like many of his red slate wines, this Rothenpfad Riesling GG is complex and rich. Good to know when buying Clemens wine is that the color of the cap on the bottle indicates the dominant slate from the vineyards, it could be gray, blue or red in this case.
