Sauternes, Ch. Rieussec - 2011

Item # 35737 750mL

An exquisite Sauternes that has resolved some of that primary sweetness with bottle age. This is drinking well today. Complex, aromatic on the palate. Made mostly of Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle. Aged in oak barrels (50% new) for a year and a half before bottling.

Staff Pick Notes

I’m happy to say that I have something in common with Thomas Jefferson; we both love Sauternes! TJ became a fanatic nearly overnight and bought enormous amounts for the rest of his life. Like Bordeaux, it can be hard to wait for Sauternes to be ready. Luckily, we’ve plucked some Sauternes from the wine ether that’s aged into something gorgeous. Jasmine tea, tangerines, unpasteurized honey, and bergamot. When critics or somms wax poetic about a bottle of wine, don’t be surprised if they’re referring to Sauternes.

For white Bordeaux, only three varieties are permitted: Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillion, and Muscadelle. The exact percentages of each grape variety used in any...
