Staff Pick Notes

Puny d l’Angel is the brainchild of natural wine heroes Louis Antoine Luyt and the brothers Ferré of Cellars Frisach. Luyt is the native Frenchman who relocated to Chile and founded the natural wine movement there. He recently moved back to France and has collaborated with these young guns from Catalonia. It’s a super easy soft red/white blend of white Parellada and red Carignan. You’ll be charmed by the luminous pink-garnet appearance in the glass. The wine is loaded with soft flavors such as hibiscus, lychee, raspberries, and citrus. It’s then supported by a wet stone-like minerality and a cheese-like lactic acidity. Enjoy with fresh ricotta and honey.

For years, this naturally high-yielding grape suffered from overproduction, but New World winemakers have lately taken up the Carignan cause and produced some distinctive and delicious examples. Now that it is subject to...

Parellada

Along with Macabeo and Xarel-lo, this is one of the three grapes that make up the traditional Cava blend. Occasionally blended with better-known varieties (e.g. Sauvignon Blanc) in delightful still whites, Parellada yields light and firmly acidic wines with pleasing floral aromas.
