Lochlea Fallow Edition Oloroso Sherry Casks Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Lochlea Fallow Edition Oloroso Sherry Casks Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Item # 49183

This is one of a handful and, thankfully, growing number of independent producers bringing artisan distilling back to Scotland. Lochlea grows its own barley and matures everything on site. Even more extraordinary is the fact that they have enlisted John Campbell as Master Distiller - John already an industry icon from his tenure in the same role at the 200 year old Laphroaig Distillery. Drawn from spirit distilled in 2016, this whisky was matured exclusively in ex-Oloroso Sherry butts, which gives it a rich, fruity flavor profile. The nose is dominated by ripe red fruits and freshly baked banana bread, while the palate offers dried fruit, leathery notes, and malt biscuits. The finish is medium length, with hints of aniseed and moreish floral rose petals. Non peated, non-chill filtered. Limited.

Olorosos are generally dry unless otherwise specified (as in the case of “sweet Olorosos” in which small quantities of...

Scotch

As a synonym for Scottish, some people object to the term “Scotch” – but as far as their whisky goes, the Scottish people are required by law to classify the spirit as “Scotch whisky.”

With the Parliament’s passing of the “Excise Act” in 1824, licensing fees for distilleries were much cheaper.
