Tasting Notes

The history of the Veuve Clicquot house is legendary and entails a 27 year widower (Madame Clicquot Ponsardin) who took over the estate at her husband's passing in 1805. She spent the next 40 years running the estate which today has become one of the most recognizable Champagne brands in the world.

Staff Pick Notes

First of all, congratulations on your decision to buy champagne. Champagne is arguably the most brand driven category in the wine and spirits world, meaning that people's buying habits are sometimes limited to brand name recognition, rather than love of the product. What made you choose to buy Veuve Clicquot today? It is because you appreciate the flavor and texture, compared to other Champagnes of similar quality and better pricing, such as Pol Roger and Guy Charlemagne? Is it because you have heard of Veuve and not the others? Is it the snappy, orange box? We love good bubbly here at Astor and would be thrilled to talk to you about all of it.

Terroir,...

These winemakers control every...

During a huge popularity surge beginning in the late 1980s, Chardonnay plantings have increased dramatically -- not only in California's wine country, with which the variety is nearly synonymous, but also in Burgundy (its original, Old World home) and just about everywhere else in the winemaking...
