The native Negroamaro grape of Apulia is aromatic in quality and you'll find aromas of incense, strawberry and jasmine. A dry red wine that's a fine foil for cuisines that have a tinge of sweetness to them be it Teriyaki or sweet and sour in direction. This comes from the Salento area of Apulia which is at the very end of the heel of Italy.
From the sun baked heel of the boot of Italy comes a classic Negroamaro. The vines for this wine were planted in the 1980's and later set ablaze by the Puligese criminal underworld. In the last few years, the vineyards were freed from the criminal rackets ("Libera Terra" means "freed ground") and switched to organic production. Medium in body, red fruit, earthy and straightforward, this wine retains nice acidity and firm tannins, making for a great food wine. It's that ideal pizza and pasta wine, with an earthy streak, ripe red fruit and firm dry finish. A simple red table wine like this can be the perfect wine with funky cheese.
