Lemorton Selection Calvados Domfrontais

Item # 32498 750 mL

This new expression from beloved producer Didier Lemorton is a slightly younger blend than the rich and excellent Reserve. Based in the tiny appellation of Domfrontais, the Calvados there consists of a much higher percentage of pear, making up more than the majority for Lemorton Calvados. The aromatics on the selection explodes with wave after wave of fresh orchard fruit, still hanging on the branch, along with a beautiful balance of vanilla, cherry blossoms, and lanolin. An incredibly well made spirit for sipping, as an apéritif, or for use in cocktails.

Staff Pick Notes

The Lemorton family has a long history in the Domfrontais: Roger is the fifth generation and his son Didier now runs the company. This is a delicious Calvados, full of apple and pear flavors and followed by floral notes. The producers distill the cider after aging it in oak barrels for 11 months. After distillation, the spirit goes into barrels for about 30 years. More pear is used than usual, which is definitely noticeable when you taste this spirit. It's light, rustic, and the fresh pear flavor lingers gently in your mouth. The clay and limestone soils typical of this area of Normandy are perfect for growing pears and dominate the estate. I enjoy this Calvados straight, sipped slowly!
