Furmint, Kobal Family - 2021

Furmint is best known for it's prominent role in sweet Tokaji wines which are made from late harvest botrytis grapes. But riper, younger grapes are made into refreshing dry whites throughout central Europe. Kobal Family's Furmint ('Šipon' in the Slovene language) comes from cool climate vineyards in the Štajerska region which is on the border with the Austrian region of Styria. Vines averaging 35 years old are planted in marl rich soil. Cold maceration for 24 hours gives the wine a pleasant crisp quality, which is accentuated with notes of fresh apples and stone fruits on the palate. A subtle texture and a hint of spice rounds it out on the finish. Serve chilled on ice with seasonal charcuterie and hard cheeses. A fantastic bottle to try if you're a fan of aromatic white wines such as Riesling or Chenin Blanc.
