I had never heard of Gelber Muskateller until today, even though I've been handling this bottle from Neumeister for close to two years. A brief look at the name does give us a clue - Muskateller must mean Muscat - meaning this grape must be aromatic. And BOY is it.
What I originally thought seemed like Sauvignon Blanc on the nose became freshly crushed lemongrass on the palate, with a Gruner Veltliner like white pepper kick. It's herbal and grassy, soft but savory. I was instantly transported to Vietnam, eating lemongrass chicken on a tiny plastic stool in the hot hot heat.
