Tasting Notes

A Piedmontese sparkling rosé that's made from the Freisa grape. The Cagliero estate has existed since the 17th Century and makes delicious, elegant wines, this bubbly being no exception. It's made from 45 year old Freisa grapes and 10% Nebbiolo both of which come from their estate vines in the Novello commune of Barolo. Staff Pick Notes

This wine was a "wow" moment for me. A striking rose made from old-vine Freisa with a touch of Nebbiolo, it comes to us from the Cagliero estate in Piedmont. Family owned since the 17th century and practicing organic, they are probably best known for making some fantastic, high end Barolo--but the quality of their farming and winemaking comes through just as well in this more casual bottle of bubbles as well. I'm tempted to compare it to the rose champagnes from producers like Vilmart or Egly-Ouriet, not just in its aromatics but the wonderful tension present in the wine. You'll find an exotic and spiced nose with blood orange and tart cranberry, nectarine, cinnamon, and loads of savory character on the palate. It's an incredible value, and a great pairing option with anything from smoked oysters, to bresaola, to egg rolls.

Several other Piedmontese grapes make striking and delicious wines: Pelaverga produces light-colored reds with distinctive...
