Wine made from organically or biodynamically grown grapes with minimal intervention avoiding the use of chemicals, additives and technology.

Tasting Notes

Budeshuri is a clone of the red Saperavi grape and while this wine started as a rosé, Nikalas needed a few liters more to top off the qvevri. He added a few liters of his inky Saperavi which darkened the wine enough to make it a red. Dry yet dark-berried and fruit driven and focused on the palate. An accessible Georgian beauty from Kakheti.

Staff Pick Notes

Georgian red wines can be intense in this extremely tannic, maybe-not-finished-fermenting grape juice-y kind of way. They're great with the right food, but my taste in red runs towards the lighter, brighter more than anything else. This particular red wine actually started out as rosé. Zurab Mgvdliashvili had prepared a single amphora (qvevri) of wine, pressing the red fruit with zero skin contact, to drink with friends. After a few months, they tasted and loved it so much they quickly finished off 5L between them. Zurab had to top off the qvevri with full bodied, inky Saperavi from the same vineyard he had on hand, and turned the wine from rosé to light red. Peppery and bright with strawberry and plum fruit, and just a little smokey barnyard on the nose, it's the kind of red that's great with a light chill: 15-30 min in the fridge.
