Tasting Notes

Pierluigi Zampaglione’s family has farmed tomatoes, grains, and beans for generations in the town of Calitri. In 2002 he planted 2 hectares of Fiano and makes this single wine. The wine macerates on the skin for about 10 days giving a noticeable golden color. It's a great introduction to orange wine and the flavors are fruit forward with smooth tannins. An excellent wine for food pairings.

Staff Pick Notes

Pierluigi Zampaglione's family grew tomatoes, beans and grains for generations in Calitri - 75 miles east of Avellino- until an experiment in viticulture changed his course. In 2002 Pierluigi decided to plant Fiano vines at 800 mt elevation for the production of a single wine "Don Chisciotte" (Don Quixote). He thinks of his vineyards as whimsically 'tilting towards the windmills' that dot the surrounding country side. As the zany hero from the Cervantes novel himself. And that's a good premise to think of this wine. Light and entertaining. Anything but a serious orange wine. Well balanced and refreshing like sipping a beer cocktail. This is a thirst-quenching wine that can flex with an array of herbal notes. Fiano is known to produce refined whites, but here it's flipped on it's head. And all the better for it.
