Distilled from fermented Molasses, this is a blend of rums aged up to 7 years. It shows medium and balanced tastes. The aging gives a nice roundness and less harsh finish. Most commonly served in cocktails or on the rocks.
The Brugal Añejo is exactly the same juice as the Extra Dry, aged 2-5 years, without being filtered. The filtering is a process that removes the color, making it suitable for a number of mixing applications. However, the filtering can also remove some flavor. I find the Añejo is an absolute delight. The nose full of cane and vanilla with an awesome citrus twist, a dry yet buttery orange aspect. The palate was delightful and wood-driven but this time full of coconut husk, plush vanillas, and, again, a dry spiced finish. An extremely well-priced entry-level sipping rum.
