Tasting Notes

This multi-generation family run winery has been a fixture of Oristano for many decades and the wines and vermouths they make are born out of a very specific pride of place. Using the local Vernaccia grapes as a base, the semi-sweet bianco style is driven by floral and herbal flavors myrtle, thyme and a local variety of salvia.

Staff Pick Notes

This vermouth is, for all the world, like sitting in a forest not too far from the sea, a bowl of mint gelato in your lap, pine needles still releasing their scent from your footsteps not too long ago, bay laurels growing wild and heavy in the resinous air, and the creak and wafting of an old chestnut wood chair beneath you as you settle in for the feast. Carta says the main influence in his vermouth is the wine WWII era smugglers used to hide in chestnut barrels, buried among bushes of Helichrysum flowers on the Sardinian coast, that would sit and drink in the smell of the land through the winter. It's a strange little microclimate. He makes another vermouth that rests under flor like a sherry, nutty and oxidative. But the Bianco is my favorite. It's a transporting, unique spirit, or wine. One that's worth thinking about.
