Ki No Tea Kyoto Dry Gin

Item # 41593

This limited release utilizes a bespoke blend of Tencha and Gyokuro teas from Uji, made in collaboration with tea-grower Horii Shichimeien whose origins date back to the Meiji ear circa 1879. The tea notes are pure, potent and fresh, herbal and tinged with a pervasive earthiness. The tea notes are balanced out by bitter lime peel and whole spices.

Staff Pick Notes

Kyoto Distillery only makes gin. They aren't waiting to release a whisky, or a new line up of vodkas. Only gin, and they do it as close to perfection as I think you can get. They number among the the few gins (I can count it on one hand) that I would prefer on their own, no tonic, vermouth, not even lime added. The Ki No Tea has a list of botanicals both familiar and new. Juniper is there, and orris, while lemon is paired with yuzu for citrus, then Hinoki cypress and a blend of Tencha and Gyokuro teas complete the profile, sourced from Hori-Shichimeien, a tea grower dating back to 1879 (Meiji era!). It would be almost impossible to overstate the balance, subtlety, and texture you'll find in this bottle. The tea flavors are at the forefront for me, earthy, fresh, sharp. But the level of complexity, the whole package, is mind boggling.
