This may be the rum we were most impressed by from the suite of current TCR releases from La Maison & Velier. Nearing a decade of aging since 2011 when the rum was originally distilled, the extra years have resulted in noticeable complexity and a rounder style. We were reminded of notes of fried banana, ginger snaps and preserved strawberries with coriander seeds. Available in limited quantities.

There are rum companies that make products that really lean into a particular flavor camp. Some are dripping with sickly sweetness and some are dry and brimming with gnarly earth notes. The truly worthwhile rums are those that gracefully walk the line between the extremes. This Panama bottling from Transcontinental is one such rum. Subtly offering earthy aromas of plantains, white pepper, and fresh leather that transition to sweeter flavors of ginger, cinnamon, and caramelized bananas. Rum is too vast and delicious to be reduced to caricatures.
