Located at the heart of the historic Sierra foothill Gold Country in California, Amador County is renowned for producing California's finest Zinfandels, some of them crafted from hundred year old vines. In recent years, many winemakers have started to experiment with Rhône Valley and Italian varietals, some with great critical success. As diverse as the varietals planted, so are the conditions in which they are grown. The elevation of Amador Vineyards ranges from 250 feet in the western foothills to 2900 feet in the east. Daytime temperatures in the summer range from the eighties to over one hundred degrees. If one must point to one single unifiying adjective for the wines of Amador, it's simply "big".
