The Astor Wines & Spirits Glossary

Blue Portuguese

A black grape variety that is widely grown in Austria and Germany, and has nothing at all to do with Portugal. In fact, Portugal might be the only place that doesn't grow it: besides Austria and Germany, France, Romania, Hungary, Slovenia, and Croatia have all cultivated the grape at one time or another. Also known as Portugieser, Blauer Portugieser, Portugais Bleu, Modra Porotugalka, Oportó, and Kékoportó.
