A Georgian red wine that's opaque in color. Made in the village of Kldeeti in Imereti. The fruit is pulpy, floral with rich tannic structure. Typically, such a structured wine would be high in alcohol but this is a mere 12% alcohol. Fermented and aged in qvevri, or anfora. Made from the Sapere grape.
Georgia is one of the "newcomers" in this mad world of wine, but this newcomer is out of the ordinary. Georgia has more than just great wine making history, but also the culture, the terroir, and the technique to make it one of the best places for quality wine. Georgia has many indigenous grape varieties and is home to one of the oldest tools for making wine -- the qvevri, a wine vessel that is buried in the soil for fermentation and storage. This wine is made with the Sapere grape, the leading grape for red wine in Georgia. An inky wine with a good amount of orange blossom and citrus fruits. The tannins are there, but very shy. Did you know that Georgia is the birthplace of wine (unless archaeologists prove otherwise)? Around 8,000 years of wine making history.
