What else can we say other than the hype is real when it comes to these rare cask strength single barrels from Kavalan that everybody seems to be talking about recently. And in an over-hyped world in general right now, it feels good to say that. Now this distillery and the project behind it comes with its own degree of flash and swagger and understandably so, but thankfully that attitude carries right over into the whisky itself with great impact. There is no doubt that the sherry matured stocks have garnered the most attention and the reason is simple, these are huge, staggering whiskies that seem to defy the laws of physics not only with there intense concentration and surprising maturing but also by the impressive amount of nuance. There is a lot percolating under the surface here and it doesn't take long to figure that out. Bottled exclusively from cask # S100201026A from a total yield of 505 bottles the spirit was bottled un-chill filtered, without additives at a full proof of 57.1% ABV. Notes include oatmeal raisin cookie, fresh molasses, ripe figs, dried dates, cocoa, ground coffee and dark spices.
