The Astor cool room truly over-delivers for an incredible price once again with this stunning library release from Domaine Filliatreau. Located near the city of Samur, the estate is known for its fruity, easy drinking style of Cabernet Franc; it was founder Paul Filliatreu’s shift to stainless steel vinifications with short macerations in the 70’s that made the style popular in Parisian bistros. Thirteen years in the bottle have lovingly softened the fresh bell pepper notes typical of Cab Franc and this wine greets us with smoky aromas of blistered peppers, dried fruits, chilies and gamey, savory notes of cured meats. A smooth as silk palate really shows off the intensity and quality of fruit from the seventy-year-old vines that produced it. This is seriously good now and I can’t wait to see what additional years in the cellar will do.
